EWURA BEI MPYA YA MAFUTA : EWURA Sets New Cap Prices for July 2025 in Mainland Tanzania
New Petroleum Price Caps in Tanzania Effective August 6, 2025
The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has announced new cap prices for petroleum products in Tanzania Mainland, effective Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 12:01 am. This public notice, issued by EWURA's Director General, Dr. James A. Mwainyekule, provides the maximum retail and wholesale prices for petrol, diesel, and kerosene.
Key Price Changes
EWURA's announcement highlights the following trends for August 2025:
FOB Prices: The Free on Board (FOB) prices for refined petroleum products, based on the Arab Gulf market, have seen a decrease of 2.3% for petrol. However, diesel and kerosene prices have increased by 5.5% and 3.7%, respectively.
Premiums: Premiums at the Dar es Salaam Port have decreased for petrol by an average of 12.43% and for diesel by 3.11%. In contrast, the premium for kerosene at the same port has increased by an average of 13.08%. Premiums at the Tanga Port remain unchanged, while those at the Mtwara Port have increased for petrol by an average of 6.12% and for diesel by 60.82%.
Exchange Rates: The applicable exchange rate used for August 2025 prices has decreased by 2.00%.

Here are the retail cap prices for major cities as of August 6, 2025:

Dar es Salaam: Petrol is TZS 2,703.02, Diesel is TZS 2,637.68, and Kerosene is TZS 2,628.90.
Tanga: Petrol is TZS 2,711.49, and Diesel is TZS 2,651.24.
Mtwara: Petrol is TZS 2,713.81, and Diesel is TZS 2,652.48.
Important Reminders for Consumers and Retailers
EWURA reminds the public that retailers are legally required to sell products at or below the published cap prices. Failure to comply will result in legal action. Consumers can verify the current cap prices for free by dialing $*152*00#$ on their mobile phones.
Furthermore, all petrol stations must clearly display their prices on visible boards. Consumers are advised to look for the most competitive prices and to request an Electronic Fiscal Pump Printer (EFPP) receipt for every purchase. These receipts are crucial for lodging a complaint if a station sells above the cap price or provides substandard products
