Get ready, Tanzania! The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has just released the new cap prices for petroleum products, effective from Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, at 12:01 AM. This adjustment aligns with the Finance Act of 2025, which also comes into effect on July 1.
These cap prices are crucial for all consumers and businesses across Tanzania Mainland, as they set the maximum prices at which petrol, diesel, and kerosene can be sold.

Why the Change? Understanding the Factors
EWURA's price adjustments are influenced by several global and local factors:
Rising Global Prices: For July 2025, the Free On Board (FOB) prices in the Arab Gulf market saw significant increases:
Petrol: Up by 6.8%
Diesel: Up by 9.3%
Kerosene: Up by 8.1%
Premium Fluctuations: In June 2025, premiums at Dar es Salaam Port increased for petrol (27.98%) and diesel (8.04%), while kerosene saw a decrease of 5.64%. Tanga and Mtwara Ports experienced no changes in premiums.
Exchange Rate Impact: The applicable exchange rate for July 2025 prices showed a decrease of 4.98%, which also plays a role in the final pricing.

Important Reminders for Consumers and Retailers
EWURA emphasizes strict adherence to these new regulations:
Price Compliance: Retailers must sell petroleum products at or below the published cap prices. Wholesalers must also stick to their respective cap prices. Failure to comply will lead to legal action.
Accessing Cap Prices: You can easily check the current cap prices on your mobile phone by dialling *152*00# and following the instructions. This service is free for all mobile network users in Tanzania.
Market Dynamics: While EWURA sets cap prices, the market still operates on demand and supply principles. Oil Marketing Companies can sell below the cap price to gain a competitive edge, but they cannot sell below the calculated floor price.
Transparent Pricing: All petrol stations are required to display their prices clearly on visible boards, showing current prices, discounts, and promotions. Consumers are encouraged to choose stations offering the most competitive prices and best services. Not displaying prices is an offense.
Demand Your Receipt! Always ask for and keep an Electronic Fiscal Pump Printer (EFPP) receipt for every purchase. This receipt is your proof in case of a complaint regarding overcharging or product quality issues, and it ensures proper tax accountability.
These measures by EWURA aim to promote fair competition and protect consumers in the petroleum market. Stay informed and empowered!
