BCX, a leader in digital solutions, is looking for a talented Specialist: Systems Engineer-Backup (WC) to join our Cloud Platform Solutions team on a fixed-term contract. Based in Bellville, Western Cape, you'll be instrumental in ensuring our systems are robust, reliable, and always secure.
What You'll Be Doing
This isn't just about maintenance; it's about providing high-level technical expertise and strategic guidance. As a Backup Systems Engineer, you'll be responsible for:
- System Administration: Install, maintain, and administer a range of backup software, ensuring all backups run smoothly and complete within the agreed-upon windows.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues within our backup environment to ensure optimal performance. You'll be the go-to person for problem resolution and risk mitigation.
- Strategic Improvements: Analyze our backup infrastructure and make recommendations for improvements to meet business needs and future capacity requirements. You'll also review existing schedules and policies to establish best practices and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Documentation & Reporting: Create and update documentation on operational best practices and procedures. You'll also be responsible for generating reports on backup and restore status, capacity, and more.
- Disaster Recovery: Participate in technical exercises for disaster recovery to ensure our systems are highly reliable and efficient when they're needed most.
Who We're Looking For
To succeed in this role, you should be a detail-oriented problem-solver with a strong background in systems engineering. We require candidates with:
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Systems Engineer.
- Qualifications: An NQF 6 qualification (3-year Degree/Diploma) in Information Technology or Computer Science is required.
- Certifications: We are looking for individuals with certifications in Netbackup 8.2, Veeam, Veritas appliance, VMWare, Microsoft Windows, Linux, and ITIL Foundation. These are essential to hitting the ground running.
- Attributes: You must be able to work under pressure, meet customer expectations, and collaborate effectively with a team.
