Description

  1. STUDENT WELLNESS COORDINATOR

Job Title Student Wellness Coordinator
Objective
  • Lead a team of professionals whose primary focus is ensuring the health, wellbeing and social-emotional development of Orkeeswa’s over 300 students.
  • Serve as the students’ biggest advocate and a constant source of support and guidance.
  • Build the capacity of Orkeeswa’s staff to uphold the standards and expectations of the Student Wellness program.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks Leadership Team
  • Participate in weekly Leadership Team meetings
  • Lead weekly Student Wellness meetings
  • Participate in Performance Review process for Student Wellness program leaders
  • Identify staffing needs within Student Wellness program and support with recruitment and onboarding
  • Contribute to the overall planning and vision for the future of the school and carry out the priorities of Orkeeswa’s Strategic Plan
  • Develop and implement school policies and procedures, particularly as it relates to student wellness
  • Support the mission, vision and strategic objectives of Orkeeswa School.
  • Take ownership and accountability for Orkeeswa School’s success and the success of our students and alumni

Counseling Program
  • Ensure each student has the support and guidance they need, particularly when facing challenges in school, at home, or in their community
  • Provide direct guidance to Orkeeswa’s Head Counselor through daily check-ins, support with setting priorities and monitoring student progress reports
  • In collaboration with our School Psychologist, organize trainings with the Counseling Team, including peer counselors, and staff members to meet Student Wellness objectives
  • In collaboration with Head Counselor and MEL Manager, oversee implementation of student wellness tracking system and monitoring and evaluation efforts
  • Support Head Counselor with organizing student home visits, parent meetings or family counseling sessions when needed
  • Provide direct counseling services to students as a member of the Counseling Team

Life Skills Program
  • Provide direct guidance to Orkeeswa’s Life Skills Coordinator through daily check-ins, logistical support with implementing life skills programming, setting priorities and tracking facilitator progress
  • Ensure Life Skills curriculum covers the needs of the students as identified through other Student Wellness programs (i.e. Counseling, Healthcare, Conduct Committee)
  • Work with faculty and staff to ensure the integration of Life Skills priorities into the timetable, curriculum and other programs at the school
  • Coordinate with other organizations to supplement Life Skills program
  • Participate in Life Skills curriculum development projects as a member of the Life Skills Working Group
  • Facilitate Life Skills home groups as a member of the Life Skills team.

Healthcare Program
  • Provide direct guidance to Orkeeswa’s Health Coordinator with daily check-ins, logistics coordination and review of student progress reports
  • Establish a system of clear communication with healthcare providers (i.e. doctors at hospitals) and students’ families
  • Help organize annual physicals for our students
  • Help facilitate the delivery of preventative care and education for our students through the Life Skills program
  • Advocate for student health within the Leadership Team to ensure they are getting access to proper nutrition through school meals; clean water; and proper hygiene protocol

Conduct Committee
  • Collaborate with the leadership team on establishing and communicating student-related policies and procedures
  • Provide direct guidance to our Conduct Committee Leader with daily check-ins, logistics coordination, and student progress reports
  • Hold Conduct Committee accountable for following through on student conduct issues
  • Coordinate collaborative efforts between Counseling Team and Conduct Committee when necessary
  • Research and coordinate professional development opportunities for Conduct Committee and staff members related to Positive Discipline
  • Participate in mediating student-related conduct issues as a member of the Conduct Committee

Student & Family Services
  • In collaboration with Orkeeswa’s Head Counselor, with input from the Assistant Head of School, identify host families for students in need and coordinate regular home assessments
  • Identify students in need of extra support at home; coordinate disbursement of resources, including food, clothing, solar lights, family health services and/or other needs
  • Support with advocacy efforts in the event of early marriage or early pregnancy

Deputy Child Protection Officer
  • Collaborate with Orkeeswa’s Head of School / Child Protection Officer to ensure adherence to Orkeeswa’s Child Protection Policy
  • Participate in an annual review of Orkeeswa’s Child Protection Policy
  • Coordinate staff trainings each term on the topic of Orkeeswa’s Child Protection Policy

Career & College Counseling Program
  • Participate in the Career & College Counseling Program as a member of the Career & College Counseling Team
  • Provide career counseling support to students and alumni
  • Collaborate on events, field trips and opportunities to expose students to different career possibilities
  • Facilitate training, workshops and events to develop career planning and employability skills for students
  • Develop positive working relationships with academic advisors, administration, and other colleagues to meet students’ career counseling needs

Extra-Curricular Program
  • Participate in the Extra-Curricular Program by facilitating clubs and/or activities as needed
Experience, Skills & Strengths Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or a related field
  • Experience with Counseling/Guidance and life skills education
  • Professional leadership and management experience
  • Experience working with youth

  1. CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMS COORDINATOR

Objective: Leading, developing and advocating for Orkeeswa’s Co-Curricular Program

  • Create interdisciplinary, project-based learning opportunities that align with students’ talents, values and personalities and complements their academic learning
  • Foster learning that ignites young people’s sense of purpose, encouraging them to exercise curiosity and creativity
  • Support teaching staff in the development and delivery of high-quality programming that focuses on skill development
  • Leadership to support the achievement of Orkeeswa’s strategic plan objectives

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

Clubs

Clubs are short-term, weekly, mixed-form, elective classes that expose Students to new skills, subjects, and projects.

  • Supporting and coaching teachers to create high-quality learning opportunities emphasizing hands-on, experiential learning,

creativity and critical thinking.

  • Support teachers with the development of curriculum either through researching, adapting and implementing existing curricula for clubs and/or by creating original curricula.
  • Organize and execute the process of club-sign ups

Activities and Projects

Activities and Projects are longer-term, twice weekly classesin small groups, focused on interdisciplinary, project-based learning.

  • Support the continued development and organization of a comprehensive activities and projects curriculum covering broad subject areas including STEEM, Story Lab, Critical Literacy, and the Arts.
  • Support full-time teaching staff with execution of high-quality activities and projects, including with professional development and coaching; curricula, materials and resources; and logistics.
  • Develop and support opportunities for Project Based Learning classes, focused on community problem solving, activism, advocacy and social justice.
  • Recruit, develop, coach and supervise co-curricular staff to facilitate programming. Co-Curricular Classes

Required classes for all studentsthat complement NECTA curriculum, i.e. Computer Classes, Robotics Classes, etc.
