AAUW International Fellowships: Empowering Women in Academia (2025-2026)
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is once again offering its prestigious International Fellowships for the 2025-2026 academic year. These fellowships provide vital support for women from outside the United States who wish to pursue full-time graduate or postgraduate studies and research at accredited institutions across the U.S. This initiative underscores AAUW's commitment to advancing educational opportunities for women globally.
Fellowship Details
- Host Institution(s): Accredited U.S. institutions. 
- Level of Study: - Master's/First Professional Degree: Programs such as J.D., M.F.A., L.L.M., M.Arch., M.D., D.D.S., M.A., M.S., M.B.A., etc. Please note that certificates, associate, and undergraduate degrees are not eligible. 
- Doctoral Fellowships: Research-focused doctoral degrees like Ph.D. or Ed.D., as well as professional doctorates such as D.B.A., J.D., M.D., etc. 
- Postdoctoral Research: Applicants interested in postdoctoral research should explore AAUW’s International Postdoctoral Research Fellowships. 
 
- Target Group: Women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Preference is given to candidates demonstrating a strong commitment to the advancement of women and girls through their civic, community, or professional engagement. 
- Fellowship Value: - Master’s/Professional Fellowship: $20,000 
- Doctorate Fellowship: $25,000 - Stipends are disbursed directly to fellows in two equal payments at the beginning and midpoint of the fellowship term. 
 
- Next Course Period: July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027. 
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for an AAUW International Fellowship, applicants must meet the following essential requirements:
- Applicants must identify as a woman. 
- Applicants must be admitted to or enrolled in their first master's or an academic or professional doctorate degree program at the time of application. 
- The program must commence on or before September 1, 2026, and conclude on or after April 30, 2027. 
- Applicants must hold at least one academic degree (U.S. or international equivalent) to a U.S. bachelor's degree, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for their highest earned degree. 
- Study must be pursued full-time at a U.S. institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. 
- Applicants must reside in the U.S. or the country of their research for the entire fellowship duration. 
- Applicants studying in a country other than their own or the U.S. must be members of Graduate Women International and attend an international institution eligible for U.S. federal student aid programs.

Application Process
Applications for the 2026-2027 academic year open on August 1, 2025. The application, along with all supporting documents, must be submitted online. The deadline for applications is September 30, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
