• Services: AUWSA's primary services include:
  • Water Supply: Sourcing, treating, and distributing clean water to Arusha City and surrounding areas. They draw water from springs, boreholes, and rivers. Water treatment involves using calcium hypochlorite, and quality is monitored regularly. They also offer water bowser services.
  • Sanitation Services: Planning, developing, and maintaining the sewerage system, including sewer networks and wastewater treatment facilities (waste stabilization ponds). They also address sewer blockages and work on sewer network rehabilitation and extension.
  • Customer Service: This includes handling customer complaints, providing information on new connections, and facilitating bill payments through various methods, including mobile USSD codes and a GePG application.
• Organizational Structure: AUWSA is governed by a Board of Directors and headed by a Managing Director. It has four departments: Technical, Customer Service, Finance, and Human Resources & Administration, with various sections and units under them.

• Challenges and Improvements: Historically, Arusha faced inadequate water and sanitation infrastructure.¹AUWSA has been working to address these issues, expanding its service area and improving coverage.For instance, water access coverage in the city increased from 44% in 2017 to 57% in 2020. They are also improving wastewater treatment capacity to handle increased flow.
