Water Shortages in Dar es Salaam - Causes & Schedule

DAWASA Water Shortages in Dar es Salaam - Causes  & Schedule. The Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Amos Makalla has asked the citizens of Dar es Salaam and neighboring areas to make good use of water this summer because the depth of water at the source of the Ruvu River has decreased by a large percentage, which has in turn caused water Shortages in Dar es Salaam for its Residents.

Makalla while on a tour to visit the water source of Upper and Lower Ruvu said the lack of water in the water source of the River  Ruvu is caused by the lack of 'Vuli /Short' rains and the presence of a long dry season.

"We all expected the presence of Short rains during this period which would help to increase the amount of water in the Ruvu River and facilitate access to water for the people"

"But according to the forecast of the weather authority, which explained that there will be a long dry season, it has caused a decrease in water, so there will be water allocation in urban areas"

"The production of water at the source of Ruvu River is 466 million liters per day but currently the production has decreased to 300 million liters equal to 64 percent".
